Feed My Starving Children Visit

MungweABC Athman presenting a gift to the Board of Directors and to Executive Director of FMSC, Mark Crea.PEN Trust had the opportunity to visit the Feed My Starving Children headquarters in Brooklyn Park, MN while in the US. After presenting the Board of Directors with a gift, we gave an update of food distributions throughout the Dodoma and Singida regions as well as highlighted further needs. FMSC with shipping help from Operation Blessing have generously donated a 40 foot container that will be arriving the first week of August 2006.

Books For Africa Warehouse Visit

Sign in St. Paul, Minnesota for the Books For Africa office and warehouse space.Books For Africa continues to have a strong partnership with PEN Trust. While in the US, we had the opportunity to meet with Patrick Plonski, Executive Director, to meet the staff and tour the warehouse. Through the generous donation of the George Seymour Bissell Foundation, a 40 foot container will be arriving in September 2006.

Food Delivered to Village Elders

Solveig and Mungwe delivering food from FMSC to Ramadan who is recovering from a recent strokePEN Trust guests from the US had the opportunity to deliver food from Feed My Starving Children to village elders and other families in need. Many of the recipients are widows and widowers who cannot cultivate their own fields and rely on their children and grandchildren for complete support. During droughts like we are experiencing now, this can become a source of conflict within families.

Books For Africa Delegation Arrives

Inspecting Container in DarPEN Trust has been very fortunate to receive another 20 foot container of quality classroom books and supplies from Books For Africa with additional supplies coming from other friends in Minnesota and NW Ohio.

Catherine Martignacco, representing the donor community, arrived in Dodoma the same day the shipment was being unloaded. Catherine, Andrea and Rashidi in the Workshop After inspecting the consignment in the Dodoma warehouse, the delegation spent a week in the villages of Singida visiting schools that have benefited from the previous shipment as well as schools that will receive books from the new consignment.

Solveig Misner Carrying Stones for the Foundation of Classrooms at Ikhanoda Secondary SchoolWhen Solveig Misner returns home to the US, she may be asked if she did anything special for her birthday while she was away in Tanzania. Solveig, alongside parents and villagers surrounding the Ikhanoda Secondary School, helped to prepare flooring to complete two classrooms and their verandas on her special day. The funds for the materials and skilled labor were made possible by another donor in Los Angeles, California, USA.

Ikhanoda Secondary School Opens With PEN’s Help

Ikhanoda Ward is among the typical areas in Singida Region which is affected by low literacy levels. Every year there are more than 200 students eligible to go to secondary school that could not make it because of the non availability of sufficient secondary schools.

In 2003, PEN Trust donated school plans and subsequently donated skilled labour to realize the class rooms which will cater for more secondary school enrollment. In October 2005, PEN Trust donated the highly appreciated books from Books For Africa. Thanks BFA!
