PEN Trust guests from the US had the opportunity to deliver food from Feed My Starving Children to village elders and other families in need. Many of the recipients are widows and widowers who cannot cultivate their own fields and rely on their children and grandchildren for complete support. During droughts like we are experiencing now, this can become a source of conflict within families.

PEN Trust has been very fortunate to receive another 20 foot container of quality classroom books and supplies from Books For Africa with additional supplies coming from other friends in Minnesota and NW Ohio.
Catherine Martignacco, representing the donor community, arrived in Dodoma the same day the shipment was being unloaded. 
After inspecting the consignment in the Dodoma warehouse, the delegation spent a week in the villages of Singida visiting schools that have benefited from the previous shipment as well as schools that will receive books from the new consignment.

At the Ikhanoda Dispensary that services five large villages for about 11,000 people, it can save a life. When guests of PEN Trust visited the dispensary to deliver t-shirts and a few supplies, we were met by Doctor Irunde with a heavy heart. His face reflected his worry as he told us that he was all out of IV drips and did not know what he would do if a patient in need came.

When Solveig Misner returns home to the US, she may be asked if she did anything special for her birthday while she was away in Tanzania. Solveig, alongside parents and villagers surrounding the Ikhanoda Secondary School, helped to prepare flooring to complete two classrooms and their verandas on her special day. The funds for the materials and skilled labor were made possible by another donor in Los Angeles, California, USA.

Edmund is a wood carver from Mvumi, Tanzania, about 45 kms from Dodoma town.
He has started a carving cooperative, in which girls and boys are learning the trade.
The carvings turn beautiful mkongolo wood into the striking forms of African animals and men and women doing daily tasks.
PEN Trust is seeking to find markets for the art produced in Edmund’s cooperative. Please contact us if you would like to purchase carvings.
PEN Trust was recently involved in coordinating the acquisition and distribution of vegetable seeds to area garden co-ops.
The seeds were donated by the Precious Blood Society here in Dodoma but originally came from Halifax Seed Company in Canada.
